Ferry services in the River Padma and in the River Jamuna remained suspended for seven and half-an-hours and 12 hours respectively on Sunday due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
Ferry services on Daulatdia-Paturia route in the River Padma remained suspended from 3:00am till 10:30 am on Sunday while ferry services on Aricha-Kazirhat route in the River Jamuna remained suspended from 10:45pm on Saturday till 10:45am on Sunday, said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation Paturia Ghat assistant general manager Abu Abdullah.
BIWTC deputy general manager Shah Mohammad Khaled Newaz said that two ferries — Begum Sufia Kamal and Ruhul Amin — had to anchor in the middle of the River Jamuna and two ferries were stranded at Aricha Ghat on Aricha-Kazirhat route with vehicles and passengers during the period.
BIWTC Paturia Ghat officials said that Enayetpuri, Hasnahena, Khanjahan Ali, Sha Paran and Faridpur ferries were stranded at Paturia Ghat; and Bonolota, Rojonigondha, Golam Mowala, Kobori, Bir Shreshtha Hamidur Rahman and Motiur Rahman ferries were stranded at Daulatdia Ghat during the period.
Beside three ferries — Keramot Ali, Borkot and Madhobilota — were stranded in the middle of the river Padma with vehicles and passengers.
